Salary Range : Payment on a ‘per shift’ basis ranges from £140 to £250 depending on area of service, or as a yearly salary ranging from £28,000 to £32,000 per annum for four shifts per week or pro-rata. Additional payments are made for mileage and further income can be gained by undertaking one off assessments as required when not on duty. Payments for such single assessments range from £50 to £100.
Job Description : We take requests by telephone from police stations and other police officers for advice or attendance to assess detainees in custody or victims in victim suites and occasionally suspects in hospital or to attend scenes of death. G4S Forensic and Medical Services has a bank of duty doctors, nurse and paramedics on duty in each of our customers’ areas and when we receive a request we call the nearest professional to attend. The professional will then undertake the appropriate assessment. The most common purposes of the assessment are to determine whether a person is fit to be detained, fit to be interviewed, to document injuries in relation to allegations of assault or to obtain forensic samples to be analysed by the forensic laboratory. For all examinations the professional must make contemporaneous notes and accurately document their findings. If required they must produce these as a written report for appropriate civil, criminal courts or other agencies
Who We Are Looking For : We are looking for nurses and paramedics with two or more years post qualification experience. Experience in triage, multi-agency working or drug and alcohol dependency is an advantage. Employed regular hours (full time or part time) or zero hours contracts are available depending on the preference of the individual. The latter means that professionals can offer G4S Forensic and Medical Services availability on a month by month basis with no commitment to any minimum level of work. In this way professionals with a primary job such as in the NHS can undertake work on an occasional basis around their primary shift patterns. This provides a unique flexibility for well trained medical practitioners to utilise their skills in an alternative and stimulating environment without compromising their primary role.
